Thanks to surging revenues and owners with deep pockets, the Premier League clubs were able to spend €2.2bn on new players this year, nearly as Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 combined. But even before setting another transfer spending record, England’s top-flight clubs had some of the most expensive players in the world.
According to data presented by Fair Betting Sites, Premier League’s five highest-valued players are worth over half a billion euros.
Three out of Five Highest-Valued Players from Manchester City FC
Premier League clubs are willing to spend heavily on their players, but one name stands out. The TransferMarkt data showed that the world’s best football team with the highest soccer power index, Manchester City FC, has three out of five most expensive players in England’s top-flight league.
Manchester City spent €145 million during the 2022 summer transfer window to strengthen their squad and signed five players for the first team. One of them tops the chart of the most expensive players.
The new generation superstar, Erling Haaland, is the highest-valued player in Premier League. Manchester City’s new signing has seen his market value soar over the past two years, jumping from €80 million in 2020 to €150 million in June this year.
Despite his valuation falling for almost two years in a row, the Egyptian king of Liverpool, Mohamed Salah, ranked as the second most valuable player. In June, the market value of the Egyptian footballer dropped to €90 million, down from an all-time high of €150 million in December 2019.
With a market value of €90 million, Manchester City’s midfielder Phil Foden is Premier League’s third most valuable player. His teammate, Kevin De Bruyne, and Tottenham’s Harry Kane round the top five list, with €85 million and €90 million, respectively.
Ligue 1 Has the Most Valuable Player in the World
The TransferMarkt data also showed that Premier League’s five most valuable players are worth more than the top five in any other European football league.
Vinicius Junior, Pedri, Aurélien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, and Gavi, the five most-valuable players in Spain’s La Liga, are together worth €440 million, or €65 million less than the top five in England’s top-tier clubs.
Statistics show that Bundesliga’s five most valuable players are worth €400 million, €30 million more than the top five players in Italian Serie A, and €20 million less than Ligue 1.
However, the top French league has the most-valuable football player in the world. After signing a massive new contract with PSG, Kylian Mbappe has become the highest-paid footballer in the world, earning over €62 million a year. The next-generation leader also has the highest market value, €160 million as of May.
