The space race isn’t really much of a race at all.
The data analysts at Fair Betting Sites have crunched the space budgets from countries around the world to see which nations are spending the most money on their aerospace programs.
The United States came away as the clear winner, spending 4.5x more than China, the next-highest country. In total, the US spent $61.97 billion on space programs in 2022, more than any other country in the world.
The data, which was sourced from Euroconsult, revealed that the US space budget outweighed that of all governments in the world combined ($41 billion).
China was next on the list after spending $11.94 billion on its aerospace program in 2022 but no other country in the world had a space budget of more than $5 billion.

United States Spent $61.7B on Space Programs in 2022
The United States space budget is by far the largest on earth.
No government spent more on its aerospace programs in 2022 and it wasn’t even close.
The US space budget came in at $62 billion, 51.2 percent more than the rest of the countries in the world combined ($41 billion)

China was second on the list with a total of $11.91 billion of expenditures on its space programs.
Over the last five years, China’s aerospace programs have undergone significant development.
In 2020, the Chinese space program became the third country in the world to land softly on Mars and establish communication from the Martian surface.
Even with China’s space budget steadily increasing, the US spent 4.5x more on its space budget compared to China.
No Other Countries Spent More Than $5B on Aerospace Programs
While the US and China weren’t shy about investing in their space programs, other countries didn’t prioritize aerospace spending the same way.
No other country in the world invested more than $5 billion in its space program.
Japan was third on the list with $4.90 billion in space program expenditures in 2022.
France ($4.20B) and Russia ($3.42B) rounded out the top-5 countries with the most government spending on space programs in 2022.
