The space race isn’t really much of a race at all.

The data analysts at Fair Betting Sites have crunched the space budgets from countries around the world to see which nations are spending the most money on their aerospace programs.

The United States came away as the clear winner, spending 4.5x more than China, the next-highest country. In total, the US spent $61.97 billion on space programs in 2022, more than any other country in the world.

The data, which was sourced from Euroconsult, revealed that the US space budget outweighed that of all governments in the world combined ($41 billion).

China was next on the list after spending $11.94 billion on its aerospace program in 2022 but no other country in the world had a space budget of more than $5 billion.

Here are the highlights from the data below.

USA Space Budget Was 4.5x Higher Than China, The Next-Highest Country

Even with China’s space budget steadily increasing, the US spent 4.5x more on its space budget compared to China.

No Other Countries Spent More Than $5B on Aerospace Programs

While the US and China weren’t shy about investing in their space programs, other countries didn’t prioritize aerospace spending the same way.

No other country in the world invested more than $5 billion in its space program.

Japan was third on the list with $4.90 billion in space program expenditures in 2022.

France ($4.20B) and Russia ($3.42B) rounded out the top-5 countries with the most government spending on space programs in 2022.
