UK Timberlovers prepared to BOYCOTT singer following DWI charge
Justin Timberlake is due to begin his European tour towards the end of July, with the famed singer heading to the UK at the beginning of August.
However unfortunately for Timberlake, resale tickets for his UK leg of the tour have skyrocketed after the ‘SexyBack’ singer was arrested for driving under the influence in Long Island, New York.
Timberlake reportedly said under his breath during the arrest that: “This is going to ruin the tour” – and he may have been right.
Many Timberlake fans from the UK are now planning to boycott the tour when it comes to Birmingham, Manchester and London in August, with the volume of tickets being put up for resale rising by the day.
326% increase in UK resale tickets since JT’s arrest
Since he was arrested in New York, our Fair Betting Sites data analysts tracked the volume of Justin Timberlake UK tour resale tickets on the market of popular resale sites StubHub & Viagogo and the evidence was damning.
Before Timberlake’s DWI charge there were just 511 tickets up for sale on Viagogo and 272 on Stubhub for the UK leg of his tour, however since the arrest those numbers have risen to 2129 and 1207 respectively.
The total rise in resale tickets was 326% following Timberlake’s arrest, which shows a dramatic and worrying climb for the 34-year-old just over a month before he is due to perform the shows.
According to the Daily Mail, some resellers in the US are selling tickets to Timberlake shows for as little as just £8.67 which shows just how desperate some fans are to boycott the singer.
Other fans are reportedly concerned that Timberlake could cancel the tour following his arrest, with possible jail time and bad press a concern for fans.
Commentary
Here at Fair Betting Sites, we interviewed one of the sellers on the resale market who wished to remain anonymous, to gain an insight into why fans are selling tickets.
“I bought 4 tickets for me & my friends back in March, but the news of Justin’s DWI has freaked all of us out. Like is he going to cancel last minute? Would we get our money back? We spent over £100 each to go to the o2 show on the 11th, but it’s not worth the risk. Rather just try to get our money back now.”
Fair Betting Sites’ head of PR, Liam Solomon, said: “The evidence on StubHub and Viagogo is damning for Justin Timberlake, with a 326% rise in available resale tickets following his arrest.
“With Timberlake already cancelling one of his shows in Poland, fans certainly have the right to question whether the UK shows will even go ahead – as well as the rest of his European tour which may also be cancelled.
“Fans simply do not want to risk keeping their tickets to Timberlake shows this summer, when the artist may be forced to cancel following his recent controversy.”
